Some odd things happen here. In fairness, I can't say if it will happen elsewhere.

1) In DX-10 Preview, a number of aircraft will not load their textures. These include all Carenado models, the CaptainSim 727 and 757.

2) Using Ultimate Terrain X USA results in replacing the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans with a forest. UTX Canada seems to be okay with Acceleration. I am playing with my scenery library and will try to find out which feature of UTX USA doesn't play nice with Acceleration.

3) DX-10 Preview insists on 32 bit color depth. At higher scenery settings, the NVIDIA 64 bit Vista drivers go bonkers.

4) DX-10 Preview requires higher AA settings.

That's the bad news. Obviously, I won't be running DX-10 Preview. Rolling Eyes Of course, that's the reason I paid big bucks for the 8800GTX, so I'm not a happy camper.

Now, some good news.

1) The length of time it takes to change aircraft (when you have a lot of them) is reduced.

2) Things seem to be a bit smoother and FPS a bit higher

3) The new aircraft are quite good. The FA-18 is superb.

I don't think DX 10 will work until they release the final "official" version of it...whenever...Vienna2009 OS anyone?

Beside that Acceleration is a fine add-on.

Will they ever learn to get their separate projects coordinated? Rolling Eyes

Without DX 10 what good is Vista...they are still sitting here waiting to be loaded.

The only reason that I may have to load one of the ones I have would be to use MSTSX if it comes out Christmas 2008...if.

There are a few issues with it and I would not recomend it to anyone who can't handle a few problems.

BWD had the solution to the problem with Acceleration and UTX USA. It just had to be re-enabled.

Acceleration works okay with DX-9, though I notice that the way some of the FS9 upgraded to FSX prop planes have props that are not rendered realistically.

One thing is for certain. The next time MS hints that a product will support a currently unavailable platform, I will not believe a word of it. So, if they say that FS11 will support DX11 and DX11 hasn't been released 6 months prior and found to actually work, I'll tell them to stuff it. Mad

Vista is more feature-rich and secure than XP. But what is MSTSX?

I don't want to sacrifice a working OS just for a few toys...I want substance.
Substance=XP over 98ME.

You know I'm not talking $ here I already have them, maybe more drivers (not the fault of MS).

MSTSX Microsoft Train Sim X, it's based on the FSX engine and will only "play" in Vista not XP.

It has to be, the people who built the last one just built a European one that's already out and the North American version will be out in January carried by EA.
If it's not better than theirs then it's destined for the bargain bin in a month after release.
I hope it's top drawer also. I think Aces is building it.

I did exactly what I said I going to do...

http://www.flightsimulationforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=5559

I went over to Amazon.com last night and bought a slightly used XBOX 360 "on the cheap" and Halo 3 to tide me over, until the second (or third) generation of DirectX 10 graphic cards come out (and recieve favorable reviews), and also when there is ample software out that utilizes dual & quad core processors...then and only then, will invest in a new computer.

Until then I'm just going to enjoy FSX Deluxe with Acceleration on my Windows XP computer with just a good old basic nVidia 7950 card, while playing Halo 3 and look forward to Ninja Gaiden II on my XBOX 360. Cool

I never had a console, I did try the sports games on the Wii the kids in my family have. Played baseball on the Game Cube long ago, very realistic looking.

I have a rear projection TV and am afraid of burn in after an hour or so.

One of my clients gave me an Xbox for some web work I did for them, and I hate to admit it, but I REALLY enjoyed Halo I & Halo II. So I have to admit that I've been interested in the third and final (so they say) Halo. It looks gorgeous, but I really couldn't see spending $450-$500 for the new Xbox 360 with Halo III.

But like I said, I got a pretty good deal on a slightly used one over at Amazon. I went over to Ebay and looked around, but I have to be one of the few computer savy people left on this earth that doesn't "get it" when it comes to Ebay. I understand the concept just fine, but the few times I've tried to buy something...the auction went on and on and finally the winning bid was damn near what the retail price was. I felt like I had completey wasted my time and saved nothing.

At least with Amazon I got a good deal on a "slightly used" Xbox 360 and a satisfaction guarantee backed up by Amazon itself, with no waiting days for bidding to be over.

Sorry Crash...I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Embarassed

I'll go slink away now. Embarassed
